Modeling the onset and propagation of epileptiform activity in children

چکیده
In epilepsy of childhood, diagnosis of a focal origin is crucial for therapeutical decisions. As a noninvasive method, MEG may supplement the information obtained during EEG video monitoring. Since MEG provides a higher sensitivity for interictal events, the task of source modeling is manifold: a) localize potential irritative onset zones in MEG; b) localize interictal onset and propagation in EEG; c) localize seizure onset in EEG; d) increase sensitivity of seizure identification in EEG by using information of MEG localization; e) use MEG localization to build regional hypotheses for high resolution MR imaging; f) compare spatio-temporal models of interictal and ictal activity and match with high resolution MR images. In this paper we will present our methological approach of multiple source analysis in children with partial epilepsies.

2-Arachidonoylglycerol enrichment Reduced Epileptiform Activity of the Rat Hippocampus induced with Pentylenetetrazol
Background and Objective: 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) and anandamide (AEA) are two major endocannabinoids. Using inhibitors of the enzymatic pathways involved in the elimination of 2-AG and AEA as well as synthetic 2-AG, we examined the effectiveness of these endocannabinoids on epileptiform activity induced in Wistar rats by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ). Material and Methods: Adult male Wistar r...
متن کاملMagnetoencephalographic patterns of epileptiform activity in children with regressive autism spectrum disorders.
BACKGROUND One-third of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are reported to have had normal early development followed by an autistic regression between the ages of 2 and 3 years. This clinical profile partly parallels that seen in Landau-Kleffner syndrome (LKS), an acquired language disorder (aphasia) believed to be caused by epileptiform activity. Given the additional obs...
متن کاملElectrophysiological characteristics of hippocampal CA1 neurons after spreading depression-triggered epileptic activity in brain slices
Introduction: A close link between spreading depression (SD) and several neurological diseases such as epilepsy could be demonstrated in many experimental studies. Epilepsy is among the most common brain disorders. Despite a large number of investigations, its mechanisms have not been yet well elucidated. Hippocampus is one of the important structures involved in seizures. The aim of this st...
متن کاملComputational models of epileptiform activity.
We reviewed computer models that have been developed to reproduce and explain epileptiform activity. Unlike other already-published reviews on computer models of epilepsy, the proposed overview starts from the various types of epileptiform activity encountered during both interictal and ictal periods. Computational models proposed so far in the context of partial and generalized epilepsies are ...
متن کاملEffect of curcumin, the active constituent of turmeric, on penicillin-induced epileptiform activity in rats
Objective: Curcumin is a major constituent of turmeric and has many biological functions such as anticancer and anti-inflammatory effects. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of curcumin and diazepam in separate and combined treatments on penicillin-induced seizures in rats. Materials and Methods: In urethane-anesthetized rats, epileptiform activity was induced by intrac...
